- Some people seem to think he went to America and died in 1897. I think this is not the case. He was living in Sunbury unmarried in the 1871 census and there is a record of a James Burchett being buried in Sunbury Church in 1877. There is also a mistaken interpretation of the 1871 census which shows Elizabeth Bennett as his wife.; the census actually shows her as a servant.
